Basking in a Floral Oasis. My new favorite Jamberry Nail Wrap!

Hey friends!  I know I just posted yesterday, but I needed to make sure this got out before the end of November. I have a new favorite wrap, and because its a Sister Style Exclusive, its only available this month.

I bring you….Floral Oasis.

Subtle.  Feminine.  But not too girly or precious.

IMG_4415

I love that its a gray background.  For those who are picky about their grays like I am, its a purple-toned gray, not a green-toned gray.  I find that purple-toned grays go much better with my skin and feel quite a bit warmer, at least in my home decor!

IMG_4414

Its the perfect wrap to wear if you want something interesting on your fingers without being flashy.

IMG_4413

The only problem? It retires December 1st.  So I’m going to buy 3 sets of these, because for me at least, they will be a major unicorn soon.

What do you think, would you wear it?

Back for Black: Everything you need to know about Black Friday, Jamberry Nail Wraps, and Unicorns!

Jamberry is quickly gaining popularity, and as it does, an interesting phenomena is developing:  THE ELUSIVE SEARCH FOR THE JAMBERRY UNICORN.

unicorn

Are you thinking, “Ok, what?  That made no sense.” Well, dear reader, read on!

The Origin of the Jamberry Unicorn
As you may know, Jamberry retires 40% of its catalogue every six months, to make room for more designs. There are hundreds of designs that are no longer available, but still totally desirable!  And in addition to the regular retired patterns, each month Jamberry releases a new “Hostess Exclusive” wrap that can only be earned through hosting parties, and a “Sister Style Exclusive” wrap that is only available for purchase for 1 month.

Unicorns!

sse all 2Enter the Jamberry Unicorn!  Any retired or hard-to-find wrap is considered a Unicorn.  And its all up to personal taste and how rare the wrap is. Ladies who love their jams trade them like baseball cards in Jamberry trading groups.  Its seriously addicting, and some designs are SO sought after, they go for $45+ on eBay.   Which is bizarre, who would pay $45 for a mani pedi?  Oh, that’s right, everyone who doesn’t use Jamberry!  But I digress…

That’s just disgusting. $45??

BACK FOR BLACK

Jamberry is catching onto this trend, so this year they are bringing back 12 months of Sister Style Exclusives!  They will be available for purchase from Black Friday, November 28 until Cyber Monday, December 1st.

Finishing Touch: How to tell the difference between the Jamberry Nail Wraps surfaces (tint, sparkle, glimmer, gloss, matte)

As you’ve noticed, Jamberry has a number of beautiful finishes, or surfaces, you can choose from.  Tint, Matte, Gloss, Glimmer, and Sparkle, to name a few!

Jamberry's New Official Image!

Jamberry’s New Official Image!

Each finish is different not only in the way it looks, but in its texture.  Jamberry gets their different finishes by printing onto different materials.  Some are thicker than others, some are more bendy and pliable.  General rule of thumb:  the thicker the material, the more heat you need to apply.

So in this post, I’m going to walk you through the surfaces, and their pros and cons!  (as well as show you a few pictures so you see how they look compared to each other)

Gloss.  This is the classic Jamberry finish.  Usually printed on clear or white, it is easy to work with and a has a consistent, shiny look.  Requires “normal” heat, about 4-5 seconds.  You’ll notice the wrap start to get bendy and pliable when you’ve applied enough.

Glimmer.  This is printed on a metallic backing (you can tell if you look at the “wrong side” of the sheet.  It is a little trickier to work with for some, so be sure to get rid of invisible cuticles and heat it a bit longer (so perhaps 8-10 seconds).  However, it also tends to last a little longer than gloss, tint, or mattes, because its sturdier.  You are trading application ease for longevity here.  And its just gorgeous.  Who can argue with that?

Matte.  This is this thinnest wrap, and therefore the most delicate.  Very easy to apply, but you will want to be gentle with it.   And it has a non-shiny surface that most people only get by applying a matte top coat.  Requires less heat than the rest of the wraps.  I find this finish doesn’t last as long as the others, but I like to wear it from time to time to achieve specific looks for specific events… like halloween!

Tint.  One of my favorite finishes EVER.  It is slightly see through… and super easy to apply.  It requires less heat, and is very forgiving.  Plus, its LOVELY!  I wrote an entire blog post about it.

Sparkle.  This is the thickest wrap, and therefore requires the most heat. Give it a full ten seconds, or more… you’ll want to see it bending from the heat, but to keep it from curling on itself!

Don’t fear these sparkles, because they are GORGEOUS wraps, and totally manageable!  Most people hate sparkle nail polish because its hard to remove and it feels all rough from the glitter.  These are smooth, consistent, and gorgeous!  The best part, is that they are very sturdy, so if you get a good application they will last beautifully.

My Tips are Sealed: How to get a perfect Jamberry Nail Wrap application with no lifting and snagging at the tips!

One of the most annoying things I can think of is having my fingers snag on my clothes or hair.  So, in this post, I’m sharing with you how to keep that from happening!  You don’t have to use all these tools, but if you’ve been having trouble some of these may help you.

1.  Clip, don’t file.  The official Jamberry application video does show filing your wraps off your tips, but if you’ve been getting icky edges that way, try trimming the very edge of your wrap and taking some nail with it.  It produces a very clean, even edge!

Snip Snip Snip...

Snip Snip Snip…

2.  Give it a day.  I find that after 24 hours, my Jamberry Nail Wraps are completely set onto my nail, and the tips have settled and smoothed themselves out  Before I do any remedial tip-fixes, I wait it out to see if it will fix itself.  It usually does!

3.  Try the Strengthening Base Coat.  This is all some people need!  It seems to prevent lifting and results in a longer application for some! You simply apply it after you prep your nail and before you apply wraps.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 10.10.58 AM

4.  The Glass File.  Some people swear by this.  Because its such a fine, gentle file, it creates a very smooth edge.  A lot of people like to file at a 45 degree angle instead of 90 degree, exposing a thin layer of their nail bed at the tips.  This makes it so they can use their nails as tools and not worry about peeling up the wrap when using their fingers to scrape something.

5.  Baggie Method.  I love this.  I do the baggie method probably 3-4 times per application, just to make sure the nail is settled the tips are tight!  If you haven’t seen this before, all you do is wrap your nail tightly with a ziplock plastic bag, and apply heat.  you can use any heat source (rice bag, hair dryer, mini heater) for this.  All that matters is that the bag is tight!

See how tight its stretched!

See how tight its stretched!

6.  Heat first, second … and maybe third and fourth (if you’re feeling ambitious)!  I find that when I heat my wrap before applying it to my nail (rather than following the cold application, where you apply the wrap and then heat it), I get a tighter seal, which results in smooth tips.

Now, adhesive side facing the heater, heat until it starts to look a little flimsy.

Heating the Jamberry nail wrap first makes a huge difference for me.

And then keep heating and smoothing throughout each application… and its ok to do 2 or 3 more times if you really want!  It will only improve the bond to your nail!  For the smoothing, you can use your rubber cuticle pusher or do the plastic baggie method, or even your good ol’ fingers will do a lot of good!  You can’t have too much heat (actually, you can if you try hard enough… so if you notice your wrap curling or melting or something, back it up a bit from the heater), but you do want to make sure that you…

7.  Cool your Jams before you file or clip! You can do this with good, old-fashioned patience and wait a few minutes for them to cool, or you can be impatient like me and grab a bag of peas from the freezer and stick your fingers on it.  Once they are cool, you are good to go!  Filing before they cool down can have a few problems.  (As we know, heat expands and cold contracts… so if you file your wraps while they are expanded and then they cool down, they will shrink on you after, leaving an insecure tip and maybe not covering as much nail as you wanted.)

Day 3 or 4 of Jaded sparkle… no lifting, super pretty! I used to fear sparkles but now I don’t!

A quick, secret tip about Jamberry Nails

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret about how to get your Jamberry Nail Wraps to last longer….

If you have grow-out that’s driving you nuts, just heat your nails up and slowly but firmly sliiiiiide the jams back toward your cuticles.  Then clip or file the bare tips!

photo 1

See all that cuticle space?? That’s gotta go.

photo 2

Heat it up!

photo 3

Then use your other hand to slide it down. It takes some time and patience but its worth it. See?? It moved!  Then just clip or file the tips to your jam!

Welcome to a whole new week out of your Jamicure!

Some Hints about Tints!

Before the new fall/winter catalogue came out, we still had some great finishes to choose from (solid, glimmer, matte, sparkle) but now we have a new one.  And it is definitely my favorite.

I’ll give you a hint…its called Tint!  And, it is what it sounds like…slightly see-through color.  But instead of boring you with my words, scroll through to see what it looks like ON THE HAND.

This image is a great way to see the difference between solid and tinted!

Here are my nails, wearing Haute Pink Tint.

Below is Haute Pink in solid.  The finish is not transparent, and the color is more dense.

Here’s me being a goof, because I’m so excited about these tints.

I find it much easier to apply, because the wrap is a little thinner than regular solids and sparkles, and its very forgiving.  Metallics, for example, can be a little trickier with bubbling.  This application was so easy though, I barely had to work for it!

Here it is on the sheet.

Another favorite, in Boysenberry instead of Haute Pink!

A little richer, a little deeper. Will be busting this out a little later into fall!

Thanks to Tints, you can now buy white tips with a slightly pink tinted nail bed rather than clear.
